SEA SNAKE FAT INCREASES ENDURANCEJapanese researchers recently tested the effects of erabu sea snake lipid supplementation on the swimming endurance performance of mice. Twelve-week-old mice were fed a diet containing 6% lard, fish oil, or sea snake lipid for 16 weeks. All of the mice performed a swimming endurance test before the supplementation period and every four weeks throughout it. The sea snake lipid group exhibited significant improvements in endurance compared to the other groups. Their blood lactate levels were lower and muscle glycogen levels were higher, indicating icnreased reliance on fat for fuel. Only two questions remain: What the heck is an erabu sea snake and why did these researchers even think to test its effects on endurance? |
