Food Q. I am considering becoming a vegetarian, but I worry that if I do, I won’t get enough protein and my cycling will suffer. Can vegetarians be successful endurance athletes?

I cannot get rid of the extra weight around mid section and over kidneys. Does body fat and skinfold affect my performance in running middle distance races? Is creatine supplementation OK for high school cross-country runners? Performance Q. I am a 43-year-old runner and have completed 12 marathons. I often get cramps in my calf muscles in runs lasting more than 90 minutes, especially in the heat. I’ve been told the problem is salt depletion, but even when I drink Gatorade like a fish it doesn’t seem to help. What else can I try?

--Beth, Star City, Pine Bluff, AR I weight train three days a week and drink Endurox immediately upon finishing but before my 30 minutes of cardio. Should I wait until I'm done with the cardio to drink Endurox or is it more effective right after the weight training? There are a lot of hydration beverages in the market. I have noticed many contain electrolytes. What is the proper amount of electrolytes that one should look for in 12 oz of a hydration beverage?
--Carl I'm training for my first marathon and starting to log some big miles (for me). Lately I have found that it's taking me a long time to recover from my longer runs and speed workouts. My legs are sore and flat for the next two days. Is there something I can do to recover faster?
